Beliefs don’t shift by force. They can’t – it wasn’t conscious will or action that put them there.
Your beliefs are something you acknowledge rather than dictate. You steer yourself upon them like a boat upon a river.
You don’t change them by forcing yourself to think different thoughts but through observation of your thoughts and feelings in combination with actions that will not only align you with what you want to believe but with experiences that will prove those new beliefs to be true.
Remember that faith is not supposed to be blind – it is instinct built upon reliable patterns. Your beliefs are built into your unconscious and nervous system. If you want your nervous system to relax and to accept something new, telling yourself that your fight or flight response is irrational will only deepen your anxieties and your resistance.
Prove to yourself that you are safe and the new reality you are building is coming into being and the shift in your beliefs will follow.
